Karbala Connect is a curated Islamic religious audio platform for the Shia Muslim community. The app streams original religious content — including Noha, Marsiya, Bayans, Majlis recordings, and podcasts — that is hosted on our servers with creator consent.
By using Karbala Connect, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the app, we may collect the following information:
- Account information: name, email address, and password (stored securely on our servers; passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text).
- Usage data: favorites, recently played tracks, followed Ulema, and followed reciters linked to your account.
- Location data (optional): if you grant permission, we use your device location only to detect your state or city so we can show relevant Anjumans and regional content. We do not store your precise GPS coordinates on our servers. Your selected state/city may be saved locally on your device.
- Device & technical data: basic information needed to run the app, such as device type, operating system version, and app version, when required for troubleshooting or security.
- Communications: if you contact us (e.g. feedback, copyright inquiries, or Anjuman submissions), we receive the information you provide.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide audio streaming, playlists, favorites, and follow features
- Show location-based Anjuman and regional content when you allow location access
- Send notifications related to app activity (if enabled on your device)
- Improve app performance, security, and user experience
- Respond to support requests, feedback, and legal/copyright inquiries
- Comply with applicable laws and platform requirements (including Apple App Store and Google Play policies)
3. Audio Content & Intellectual Property
All audio streamed through Karbala Connect is published with permission from the respective creators (Reciters, Anjumans, Ulemas, and Maulanas) or submitted directly by rights holders through our review process. Content is hosted on our own infrastructure at karbalaconnect.in.

4. What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
- We do not use your data for unrelated advertising profiles.
- We do not track your precise real-time location in the background.
5. Permissions Used by the App
The Karbala Connect app may request the following permissions:
- Internet: required to stream audio and sync your account data.
- Location (optional): to detect your state/city for regional content. You can deny this permission and still use most features.
- Notifications: for playback controls and app updates (if enabled).
- Foreground service / media playback (Android): to continue audio playback when the app is in the background.
- Background audio (iOS): to continue playback when the app is in the background or the screen is locked.
- Photo library (optional): only if you choose to set a profile photo from your gallery.
6. Third-Party Services
We may use trusted third-party services to operate the app, including:
- Cloud hosting & database providers to run our backend and API.
- Media storage (Utho.io) to host and deliver audio and image assets on our servers.
- Google Play Services when you install or update the Android app from the Play Store.
- Apple App Store services when you install or update the iOS app from the App Store.
These providers process data only as needed to deliver their services and are expected to maintain appropriate security measures. We do not share your personal data with music streaming platforms or social media networks for advertising purposes.
7. Data Storage & Security
Account and usage data are stored on secure servers. We use industry-standard measures such as HTTPS encryption for data in transit and secure password hashing. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. If you request account deletion, we will remove or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required by law.
